Why Place Matters in Healing

Here in Penguin, Tasmania, the land itself holds a presence that feels both grounding and expansive. People often describe the seaside town as having a quiet healing energy ~ perhaps it’s the ocean breeze, the wide blue sky, or the green ridges that surround us. Some even speak of ley lines and energy grids that weave through this land, connecting us to something older, wiser and deeper. Whether you hold to the science or the symbolism, it’s undeniable: this is a place that helps people breathe easier. Come down for air ~ Tasmania’s iconic tourism tagline is absolutely present and real here ~ Penguin is a destination for relaxation, nature and a break from the stresses of modern life. That is my why ~ to relocating to Tassie, just over three years ago. To just be.

The Power of Blue Spaces

Research shows that time spent by the ocean, rivers, or lakes ~ what scientists call blue spaces ~ can lower stress, lift mood, and soothe a busy mind. The sound of waves or flowing water acts like a gentle metronome for the nervous system, inviting us into rhythm and calm. Even simply gazing at the horizon can create what practitioners call gaze spotting, giving the mind deep focused mindfulness and rest from constant effort. To just be.

The Nourishment of Green Spaces

Surrounded by the green of Tasmania’s forests, hills and gardens, we are reminded of life’s cycles, seasons and resilience. Green spaces are proven to reduce anxiety, lower blood pressure, and restore mental clarity. For many, walking among trees or sitting in natural light provides the exact sense of “safe-enough” that allows deeper inner work to unfold. To just be.

A Place That Holds You

When we combine this natural support with trauma-informed therapies ~ Brainspotting (where gaze spotting sits), Relational Integrative EMDR, and somatic practices ~ we’re not working against the nervous system, but with it. The land, sea, and sky become co-facilitators in the process, helping your body feel anchored, present, and able to release. To just be.

Here in Penguin, you don’t just step into a session ~ you step into a whole environment designed to hold you. Safe-enough. Grounded. At Ease.
