Feel Safe Enough, Good Enough and Worthy Enough with Money
Money is never just about money. For many women in midlife, especially those juggling careers, family responsibilities, and the quiet but relentless pressure to hold it all together, money can feel less like a neutral tool and more like a heavy presence, infused with shame, fear, or regret.
Money trauma is rarely obvious. It hides in behaviours that are quietly accepted: overworking, undercharging, avoidance, people-pleasing. The nervous system holds it all as a story keeper, a tight jaw when someone mentions bills, a knot in the stomach when you consider raising your prices, racing thoughts and shallow breath when money comes up in conversation.
These aren’t random stress responses. They are your body remembering, signalling that something about money has felt unsafe before.
A safe-enough space to begin again
Whatever you’ve been carrying, however long you’ve been carrying it, and however many times you’ve wondered whether anything will actually shift, you are allowed to begin here, exactly as you are.
Sonia offers compassionate, trauma-responsive therapy in Penguin, Tasmania and online across Australia, combining advanced brain-body therapies with warmth and lived experience, so you can release money trauma, shift survival patterns, rebuild self-trust, and reconnect with the life that has always been available to you.
Building Foundations
We begin by creating enough safety in your nervous system for the deeper work to be possible, building practical tools for navigating emotional triggers, overwhelm, and the exhaustion of carrying it all.
Exploration of Themes
We gently trace where your patterns come from, the intergenerational threads, childhood imprints, and inherited beliefs that shaped how you relate to money long before you had any say in them.
Reconnection
We work at the root of the pattern, so your relationship with money stops being driven by survival responses, and you can begin to know in your body, not just your mind that you are safe enough, good enough, and worthy enough to receive.
What becomes possible
- Money conversations that no longer send your nervous system into overdrive.
- A business that earns steadily, even when you rest.
- The ability to receive support without bracing for what it will cost you.
- Financial decisions that come from clarity rather than fear.
- A relationship with money that finally feels like yours, not something you inherited.
- A gentler relationship with yourself, where compassion replaces the weight of self-blame.
Is this you?
You’re capable, caring, and incredibly good at holding things together for everyone around you. But quietly, underneath all of that, something around money keeps catching you off guard, the chest tightening before you check your account, the shame of not having it sorted by now, the exhaustion of working so hard and still feeling like you’re barely keeping pace.
You’ve tried things. You’ve read the books, done the courses, told yourself to think differently. And still the pattern returns, because what you’re carrying isn’t a mindset problem. It lives deeper than that, in your nervous system, in the stories you inherited before you had any say in them, in the survival responses that learned to keep you safe enough long before money ever felt like something you were allowed to feel safe enough with.
You don’t need to have it all figured out before you reach out. You just need to feel safe enough to begin.

Meet Sonia Skewes
For over 20 years, Sonia has sat with people in their most vulnerable moments, through crisis, grief, loss, and the kind of trauma that doesn’t always have a name. Her work has always been shaped by both formal training and lived experience, because she understands from the inside what it means to carry more than your share for longer than feels sustainable.
Sonia brings advanced clinical training in Relational Integrative EMDR, Brainspotting, Root Cause Therapy, and Resource Therapy together with ongoing study in somatic and nervous-system-based modalities, so that the therapy she offers is scientifically grounded, deeply intuitive, and paced in a way your whole system can receive.
Her particular focus is the intersection of money and trauma, the place where inherited patterns, survival responses, and questions of worth quietly converge, and where some of the most profound and lasting shifts become possible.
Awareness, rather than fixing, is often the first doorway to change.
