Meet Sonia, Integrative Money Trauma Therapist
Online across Australia
For most of us, the question was never really about money. It was always about whether we were safe enough, good enough, and worthy enough and money just became the place where that question lived most loudly.
For over twenty years I’ve sat with people in their most vulnerable moments, in the discomfort and uncertainty they couldn’t share anywhere else. What I’ve come to understand is that the patterns showing up are rarely about money at all. They’re intergenerational threads, quietly woven into the way you were raised, the things that were said and unsaid, and the survival responses your nervous system learned long before you had any say in it.
I combine lived experience with evidence-based brain-body therapy to help women gently unravel those threads, so that money can finally feel safe enough, steady, and yours.
How my story shapes my practice
I didn’t become a therapist in a classroom.
My healing journey started long before I had any qualifications, back when I was a kid who had no words for what I was feeling, only a nervous system flooded with fear.
I grew up in the 1980s, when interest rates hit 20 percent. I didn’t understand money, but I understood the tension. The silence. The way everything in the house felt tight and unsafe. That kind of stress settles into your body, and it stays.
Years later, working as a young apprentice hairdresser, I discovered something important, I had a gift for attunement. I could feel what people were not saying. I could sense the anxiety behind a smile and the exhaustion behind a “Yeah, I’m fine.”
Listening, really listening, became my way of caring for people.
It is still the foundation of my work today.
What I believe about healing
Healing isn’t something I do to you or for you. It’s something that becomes possible when the right conditions exist, and my work is to help create those conditions, at a pace that follows your nervous system’s lead rather than pushing ahead of it.
I don’t rush, and I don’t push. You have already survived more than most people will ever understand, and that survival deserves to be honoured before anything else.
What I know from twenty years of sitting with people, and from my own lived experience, is that healing rarely looks like fixing. It looks like slowly becoming safe enough to feel what you’ve been carrying, to see where it came from, and to discover that some of it was never truly yours to carry alone.
That includes relational trauma, grief and loss, attachment wounds, and the way money has quietly become tangled up in questions of safety, permission, and belonging for so many of the women I work with. Because money is rarely just numbers. For most of us it carries the weight of whether we are safe enough, good enough, and worthy enough to receive what we actually need.
How I work
Whether we’re meeting online or in my in-person space in Penguin, Tasmania, you can expect a pace that checks in with you as we go, always following your nervous system’s lead rather than pushing ahead of it.
You’ll take home practical tools for nervous system safety that you can carry into your everyday life between sessions.
I bring gentle curiosity rather than clinical distance, and I create a space where all parts of you are welcome.
I work in bite-sized steps your whole system can receive, because big breakthroughs often come from steady shifts, not dramatic moments.
Safe Enough
To begin before you feel ready.
Good Enough
To stop earning your place and simply occupy it.
Worthy Enough
To receive what you’ve always given to others.
My Training
Over the past 20 years I’ve worked across trauma recovery, early intervention mental health, grief support, and community care, and I’ve spent that time going deep, not wide.
My formal training includes a Master of Social Work and Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Psychology), alongside advanced clinical training in the modalities I use most:
EMDR and Relational Integrative EMDR (including advanced training, GTEP, and IFS-EMDR integration)
Brainspotting (Phases 1 and 2, with advanced training in relationships, children and adolescents, and expressive arts)
Resource Therapy and IFS-Informed practice
Root Cause Therapy
Trauma of Money Method™ and Trauma-Informed Manifestation Coaching
I’m currently deepening my practice through training in the Compassion Key™, QUEST facilitation, and Somatic Release Breathwork.
This work is also personal. Everything I offer, I have needed myself at some point and that shapes the way I sit with people more than any qualification ever could.
If you're holding a lot, I'm here to hold it with you.
You don't have to have it figured out before you reach out. You don't have to know what you need or have the right words to describe it. You just have to feel safe enough to take one small step toward yourself.
When you're ready, and even if you're not quite sure yet, I'm here.
